Week 5 - Ducks are Unperturbed by the Monsters Swimming in the Lake.
It was hot. Very hot. It was so hot that Jake decided he didn't want to fly home from his vacation, and Quigs decided he didn't want to play 23 innings of baseball in a day. Turns out he would have only played 21 innings, and he missed a great time. With an efficient 9 players, Ducks win with a 10-0 score line.
This game was about pitching dominance from Nick Gervais. Tallying 9 strikeouts with only 1 walk and 2 hits through 6, the Lake Monsters couldn't string together any runs. Limiting the balls in play was ideal, because we had no regular outfielders!
At the plate, we continued to stay hot. Andrew and Karl were 4-4, with Karl producing a walk-off single in the 7th. Andrew with two 2B and Asa with his first 2B of the year.
Week 4 - Great Day for Baseball
With monsoons of rain leading up to this week, it was agreed to move our game against True Blue to Kohler Meadow. On the wrong field, with an umpire who had never umped a TCMABL game, things went pretty smoothly for the Ducks. The Ducks were victorious, 13-7.
Jason had a great start on the bump, and made it through 4.1 innings with 0 ER. Paul ended up ulitmately getting the win because our bats didn't come alive until later in the game.
About those bats... The Ducks continue to find gaps in defenses all over the field. We tally another 14 hits, register 9 walks, and 2 plunks.
Week 3 - Ducks go Fishing
Mark was up fishing in Canada this weekend, but the remaining Ducks had their own fishing expedeition catching Muskies at Kohler Meadow. The Ducks bats sraped across a run in the first, and 2 in the 5th. But we finally got to the Muskie's pitcher the 3rd time through the order and put up 7 runs in the 6th. No real standouts offensively, as everyone did their part to get a great team win. Final score: Ducks 10, Muskies 7.
This was the second game in a row that the Ducks bat around in an inning and tallied double digit hits.
Jason got the start on the bump and kept the Muskies hitters off-balance through 4 innings. Evan took the rock the middle of the 4th and had just enough in the tank to get the win and hold the lead.
Week 2 - Clobbering the Ducking Ball
The Ducks pummel the Hounds 15-2. We had a big inning where we plated 9 runs, capped off by a Mark Fenner grand slam. Andrew Jakus also gets two doubles, and Quigs had 5 RBIs on the day. We had 17 hits as a team this game.
The pitching duo of Nick and Evan held the Hounds in check. They scratched across a few runs due to moments of unsure defense.
Week 1 - Comepetitive Debut
The Ducks fell in their 28+ debut to the Irish, 3-2. Our pitching was outstanding, but a few defensive miscues and well-executed small ball led to 1-run innings for the Irish in the 3rd, 6th, and 7th.
Offensively, we couldn't crack the code on the effective lefty Nate Starks, amassing only 1BB and a few hits over his 7 innings. The Ducks sparked a late rally and scored two in the bottom of the ninth. The game ended with the tying run in scoring position on a filthy play by the Irish 3rd baseman.
We're already looking forward to the rematch on July 20th!
